Soccer pitch construction cost breakdown: turf from R179 per m², baseworks, shockpad, infill and labour. Realistic budgets for courts and full pitches.
The honest answer to 'what does a soccer pitch cost?' is: it depends on the base. A flat, well-draining site needs far less earthwork than a sloping one, and that is where budgets swing. What does not swing is the turf price - SynGrass 40 Soccer is R179 per m² wholesale, delivered anywhere in South Africa.
The table below breaks a project into its real components so you can compare quotes line by line. Be suspicious of any quote that gives one number without showing baseworks, shockpad and infill separately - that is where shortcuts hide.
As a rule of thumb: the turf itself is only 25-35% of a turnkey pitch budget. Baseworks and drainage are the biggest share, followed by shockpad, infill and labour. Reusing an existing base (for example an old court or a resurfacing project) can cut the total by 40% or more.
Every site is different - these ranges help you budget. Send your dimensions for an exact written quote.

Reuse a sound existing base (old court, tennis slab or a worn pitch due for resurfacing) - baseworks are the biggest cost, and skipping them can cut the budget by 40%+. A good shockpad and correct infill are the two places never to save.
A 40m x 20m court is 800 m², so the SynGrass 40 Soccer turf is about R143 200 at R179 per m² - roughly a third of a typical turnkey budget.
We can structure projects in stages - base first, turf later - to match budget cycles, which is common for schools and municipalities. Ask about staging when you request your quote.
